ΕΥ+ Archaeology
Shipping, is one of the favorite subjects of archaeology, so for the reason of discovering commercial routes that linked the societies of the past- in order to approach history, as for reasons of empirical understanding of the navigation technology employed by ancient ships.
During very early times the identity of men of the sea acquired distinguished characteristics, describing on the whole, cultural entities- mostly in Eastern Mediterranean basin, that were related to the sea. The indications of the first cruises are dated between the 10th and 7th millenniums, while the sails were used around the 4th millennium BC. Many archaeological artifacts, of all historical periods, depict ships and recent underwater excavations bring to light well- hidden secrets of the sea.
It is obvious that the fascination of the sea is an infinite procedure over time. For that, the team of EY+ is proposing sailing routes that includes visits of archaeological and cultural interest, in order to get an acquaintance with some historical aspects of this land, but also to enjoy unique landscapes that coastal archaeological sites, invariably offer. Our arhcaeologist, specialized on Ionian archaeology and ready to guide our guests into important archaeological paths, is provided on the sailboat if you choose this type of thematic trip!
Through archaeological narrations we will follow the return of the mythical Ulysses in Ithaca, the journey of the people that were seeking for an oracle in Delphes and in Nekromanteion, we will visit the Gulf of Aktion, where Octavian Augustus prevailed in the naval battle of the 31st BC. and built an entire city, from the begging, as a trophy and many others..
