It is a beautiful traditional village by the sea, built on a hill which surrounds the local port with the Italian old castle on the top of the hill. You may have admired something similar in a movie but here you will see in first hand the beauty of Epirus. Parga attracts a substantial amount of tourists during summer time but we will enjoy the peaceful little streets going uphill to the castle while thinking about our same-day visit to Aheron. We will also explore the local architecture of houses with typical balconies and roofgardens and admire the islet with the tiny church of saint Mary. We will finish our day having dinner by the sea in one of the small taverns.
The suggested hiking path which is covered with stones and cypresses, ends up to the old castle. From this castle, which was built on top of the hill to avoid pirates, we will admire the view down to the village and the details of the castle; the Venetian lion at the entrance, the signs of Turkish emperor, the double-headed eagle and signs to a hidden path down to the sea.
The islet of Holy Virgin, with two small hills and a church which gave the name to the islet, lies right in from of Parga in a swimmable distance.
